Guides Meetings: Getting the lowdown and making wise decisions

One of the best parts of being part of a guiding operation (besides the limitless powder runs) is the camaraderie. It’s a group of experienced, like-minded individuals who have made a career out of mountain safety and client service. Each morning in a guiding operation, the guides get together and discuss the conditions to collectively form a decision on where they should go, and not go, for the day.

The guides meeting is one of the most important parts of the day as it’s the only time where all the guides are together in the same room and have the ability to speak up on issues they have noticed, and share insights that maybe only they have gained from what has happened out there. In a very individualistic trade, it’s a chance for all the guides to act as a team and cohesive unit to help make everyone feel safe.

But why should it only be for guides?

Guides Meetings For All

We care about people making the best decisions possible out there. That is why we are dedicated to not only delivering good information for you to digest in your own time, but also for members to come together and share insights and gain a better understanding of the conditions out there and what is happening in real-time. So, we are bringing the idea of the guides meeting to the public.

Each week, we will gather online for a live broadcast for people to share information. It will also be a way to ask questions, to seek out a better understanding, and make quality plans for their next trip to be as safe as possible. The end goal will be better knowledge, which in turns to better decision making.

How It Works

Every week, we will log in and share real-time updates. Sometimes, this will be in the field, and other times it will just be an online roundup. The point is to get together to share information and help one another make better plans based on the information available.

Some weeks we will have guest speakers share their insights based on what they have gained in the field. Each week will be different, because that is the case in nature. We will also focus on a particular theme to cover, to give members something to practice while in the field.

The meetings will run approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, give or take. With routine attendance, members will be able to gain valuable insight on how things change from week to week, which will in turn help to gain a better understanding over the long-term changes throughout a season.
