Every good club has a creed.
And no, not the semi-emo rock band from the 90’s with the mumbled lead singer. I’m talking about a credo, a statement, one that people can unite behind to find a shared direction. Some may call it corny, but you can also think of it as a rallying point. It’s a way to unite people and help bring ritual to a practice that often goes overlooked for many.
So to help people find a common idea or ethos to rally behind, we offer a mantra, if you will. Nothing too fancy, but something that hopefully everyone signing up can agree with. We just want to help instil certain values that are important for being proficient in the backcountry, whether it’s your first time out there or you are a lifelong vet. We all have a place in the backcountry.
So without further ado, the Alpine Islands Creed:
We come from all walks of life to gain a closer relationship with Mother Nature and her wild forces. We all have something to learn, and something to teach others. We value humility, respect, and discipline to develop and grow our relationship with the mountains. We are inclusive, encouraging, and helpful. We humbly submit to Nature’s powerful forces. We are all but students in her classroom and release any pretense or ego for a lifetime of learning.
